Each school has a different ‘welcome plan’, adapted to its particularities and needs. But in each plan, the first activity is always a meeting between the university tutor, the school tutor and the head teacher.

At this meeting, various topics are discussed, such as:

    • Basic information about the teacher’s practises.
    • The content of the ‘seminars’ at the university.
    • The main goal of the specific period of practices.
    • Documents to be reviewed by the teacher’s students.
    • Organisation of the tasks to be done by the students.
    • Professionalisation of the teacher.
    • Basic information that student teachers need to know.

    Fifth Transnational Project Meeting

    Fifth Transnational Project Meeting

On 27th of October the INSHIP team held the fifth transnational project meeting on Zoom. The meeting was hosted by the University of Primorska, Faculty of Management.

The focus of the meeting was to present and discuss different contents of the INSHIP model. We discussed about model conceptualization and implementation, designing teaching practice curriculum, quality indicators of teaching practice and model evaluation.

Partners from Germany presented news about the research progress. All partners are included in the research about university students’ views on teaching practice.

Finally, some organizational issues were discussed. Because the topics on this meeting were complex and many creative ideas emerged that needed to be further elaborated, the discussion was continued on the second meeting on 17th of December.

EXPERIENCE WITH TEACHING PRACTICE IN THE EDUCATIONAL CENTRE IN SPAIN

EXPERIENCE WITH TEACHING PRACTICE IN THE EDUCATIONAL CENTRE IN SPAIN

TEACHING PRACTICE AT THE PADRE MANJÓN-ELDA SCHOOL

Despite the difficulties in this course due to the pandemic, we have continued to accept teacher trainees at our educational centre – it is one of the centres with the highest demand for student teacher internships in our city. In fact, by the end of this course, we will have a total of twenty-one teacher trainees.

The practicum is a time of discovery for teacher trainees – in some cases, it is their first real experience of the profession they wish to pursue in the future.

Our main goal is to supervise students’ learning to complete their training as well as possible. To do so, students observe different levels and groups during their internship so they can get a broader perspective and have access to the training, resources, and all the management and organizational meetings that the other teachers hold. We also organize special sessions with the management and guidance teams. The selection of the tutor who will supervise the student is also important. We always start with volunteer personnel, and although we take on many trainees, there is always someone on the ‘waiting list’. The centre’s staff are used to seeing internship students during different stages of the course and working and collaborating with them.

students during different stages of the course and working and collaborating with them. The centre is large with numerous students, a significant proportion of whom are those with special educational needs; hence, having an extra set of hands and eyes in the classroom always helps. We try to ensure that the internship students take on a semi-teaching role, advising them in the development of their activities.

The following photos represent some examples of a regular day’s activities where both the trainees and tutor are encouraged to play an active role in teaching the students.

The management team meets with the trainees at the start and at the end of the internship. We are keen for their assessment and thoughts about their experience at our centre. As a reminder, we give them a personalized letter (sample provided below), which they value as it gives them a greater sense of belonging to the centre.

First Learning, Teaching and Training Activity

First Learning, Teaching and Training Activity

In June 2021, the first learning, teaching and training activity (LTT) was organized by the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Education. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the event was held in a virtual environment on Zoom on five separate days. Three days were organized internationally, with participants from Slovenia, Spain, Germany and the Czech Republic. Two days were held in a national team, with participants from each partner institution.

Photo from online international meeting on day 1

The main objective of the INSHIP seminar I was to learn, reflect, discuss and receive feedback from the participants, i.e. academic staff, about the INSHIP model and the future INSHIP course that is being developed as part of the project with the aim of educating academic staff in supporting student teachers in high quality teaching practice.

The main topics of the LTT were evaluation in teaching practice and the CANVAS model, best practices in teaching practice, with the analysis of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on teaching practice, conceptualization, identification and tips for the implementation of educational principles in teaching practice and professional competencies in teaching practice.

Although the event was held online, participants actively shared their experiences, opinions, and suggestions. In international seminars, participants worked in groups consisting of members from different countries, which proved to be effective and interesting. Some national meetings were organized face-to-face, others were held in a virtual environment.

Overall, the first learning, teaching and training activity was successful given the circumstances of the pandemic and the online implementation. We look forward to the second activity and keep our fingers crossed that we will be able to organize it face to face.
